Last year the Northside Planning Council successfully applied for a small City of Madison Neighborhood Planning Grant to help stimulate projects and engagement within Northside Neighborhoods. There were two open invitations (published in previous Northside News issues) to Northside neighborhood leaders – both formal within associations and informal with no associations – to come together and connect. The purpose of these two meetings that occurred was to both launch these $100 mini-grant projects and to strengthen the relationships and promote peer-to-peer support and mutual learning among Northside neighbors and neighborhood groups. To date six such mini-grants have been utilized for purposes that include social gatherings for neighborhood associations, free little libraries, and printing of materials to increase communication and connection within a neighborhood association.
So, if you are planning a project to support connections and build relationships and community within your Northside neighborhood, reach out to share your idea and explore how the Northside Planning Council, in partnership with the City of Madison’s Neighborhood Grant Program, can support your effort.
Additionally, if you are a Northside neighborhood association or informal leader in your neighborhood, we have a small yet mighty group of Northside leaders gathering and considering ways to strengthen the connections and community in their own neighborhood area and across Northside neighborhoods as well. Send a note of interest to director@north
