Anna Stevens, a member of Madison’s Northside Scouts BSA Troop 127, was awarded the honor of Eagle Scout on Nov. 16 at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Eagle is the highest rank that Scouting America, formerly Boy Scouts of America, offers. Only approximately 6% of scouts earn the prestigious honor of Eagle.

Stevens, 14, achieved 33 merit badges, including the 21 required to receive the Eagle Scout Award. For her Eagle service project, she organized a crew to replant wild prairie plants and place them into a new wild prairie area.

Stevens has participated in outdoor adventures where it has been necessary to practice preparedness and outdoor survival skills at Isle Royale National Park, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

“I am extremely proud to become an Eagle Scout,” said Stevens. “I owe many thanks to our troop’s leaders and the community for their support.”

The ceremony honoring Stevens was attended by over 50 scouts, family, friends and community members. Two proclamations were presented, including one from County Executive Melissa Agard. Dan Gelis, scout executive of the Glaciers Edge Council, made remarks emphasizing the importance of recent changes to Scouting America’s programs that allow all kids up to the age of 18 to participate regardless of gender.

Stevens competes in volleyball and track and field as well as playing cello in the orchestra at Sun Prairie East High School. Anna has been involved in Scouts BSA for only four years.

Scouting America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based organizations providing fun and challenging programs for young people while promoting character development, citizenship, outdoors skills, and personal fitness. Since 1910, Scouting America has impacted the lives of youth and shaped the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.

Troop 127 has many exciting outings and activities planned for the coming year including weekend campouts, a week at summer camp, and a week-long kayaking adventure to the Apostle Islands. To learn more about how your child can join Scouts BSA Troop 127, visit troop127wi.org.
