FEED Kitchens
Healthy Food for All’s (HFFA) involvement with an effort to Buy Out the Market on Saturday, April 19, as a positive action to demonstrate community support for our farmers, was a big success. HFFA partnered with the grassroots political organizing group, 50501 Movement, to encourage shoppers to buy extra food at the Dane County Farmers Market and donate it to HFFA for distribution, supporting farmers market vendors and Healthy Food for All’s mission to feed our community.
We had an incredible turnout that day, filling our vehicles with food that was immediately distributed to community centers and our food distribution partners. Hundreds of people came to the market to buy extra food and produce, then brought it to James Madison Park where food was collected and organized.
We will bring this Buy Out the Market action back a few more times over the summer at the Dane County Farmers Market and other markets around town, so keep an eye out for announcements and support the effort. This initiative furthers our goal to make healthy food accessible in Madison while also supporting farmers and the local economy.
We will also be running our Buy One for a Neighbor campaign at the Northside, Eastside and Monroe Street Farmers Markets this summer, where you can buy extra food for donation to neighbors in need. Just look for the HFFA booth. We look forward to seeing you at the summer markets.
