Dr. Jennifer Berne stepped into her new role as Madison College president this summer, bringing a vision for enhanced student success and strong community partnerships.
Berne oversees the seven-campus college, including the nearby Truax and Commercial Avenue spaces.
“I appreciate that the Madison College community has put their faith in me to lead,” Berne said. “I recognize the significant role we play here: our students change their lives through education, our employees put their hearts into their work, and our partners recognize our significant community impacts.”
During her first months as president, Berne is connecting with employees and students and engaging with long-standing partners, such as the Madison Metropolitan School District, the Universities of Wisconsin transfer institutions, employers and other advocates. Her collaboration with these groups aims to enhance educational access, strengthen the workforce pipeline, and support student success.
“We all have a vested interest in making Madison College a force for good in our community,” Berne said. “What students gain from their time here is not just a degree or credential, but a lifelong commitment to growth and change.”
Dr. Berne’s career spans more than 30 years in higher education, from faculty member to researcher to instructional leader.
Northside residents are encouraged to take advantage of the valuable resources at Madison College, including degree and certificate programs, continuing education and professional development, as well as theatre, music and other cultural events.
“We invite our neighbors to enroll as new students, take continuing education classes to upskill their career or pivot to a new one, and attend community events at our Commercial Avenue and Truax campuses,” Berne said.
Berne looks forward to leading the college, with its century-plus history in Madison: “Together, we can strengthen this vibrant educational community that supports growth and success.”
