On April 26, MATC’s Native American Student Association (NASA) hosted a powwow at the Madison campus on Wright Street. The event was free and open to the public.
Vendors were on hand selling clothing, blankets, jewelry and other items. Tacos featuring fry bread were available to purchase, and more traditional dinner fare was catered by Wild Bearies, a nonprofit that focuses on ancestral foods.
The highlight and main focus of the event was the dancing and music. Katie Ackley, advisor for NASA, explained that this was called an intertribal powwow because members of all 12 Wisconsin tribes were represented. “We strive to have representation from all over the state. We typically have a Ho Chunk presence since we are on their land, but we also do our best to include other tribes as well,” she said.
Mark your calendars for April 25, 2026, to attend the next NASA Powwow at MATC.
