Northside News
The PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship will take place at TPC Wisconsin (formerly Cherokee Country Club) June 5–7. In its second year on the Northside, the event features PGA TOUR Champions golfers and raises money for the American Family Children’s Hospital and local nonprofits.
Parking and vehicle access will be restricted north of Wheeler Road on both North Sherman Avenue and Comanche Way from around 8 am to early evening during the championship week.
Due to setup needs and private events, the restrictions begin June 1. From June 1–7, a police officer (paid by the tournament) will be stationed at the corner of North Sherman and Wheeler. Residents and their guests, delivery vehicles, contractors and those attending services at St. Peter Church will be allowed access to North Sherman north of Wheeler Road. For June 5–7, similar restrictions will apply to travel north of Wheeler on Comanche Way.
Residents north of Wheeler Road should receive access permits either in the mail or via email. St. Peter Church is expected to have permits available in advance.
Bicycle and pedestrian access won’t be restricted on any day. Those attending the tournament can take a free shuttle from Madison College or use bicycle parking on site.
Vehicle access to Cherokee Marsh–North Unit will be allowed only from 7 pm until the park closes, one hour after sunset. An exception is vehicles with disabled tags or plates, which will be allowed access on North Sherman during the day June 1–4.
Vehicle entry will be allowed on Comanche Way north of Wheeler for those visiting Cherokee Park or entering Cherokee March–North Unit from the walk-in entrance at the north end of Burning Wood Way. Explain to the officer that you would like to enter to visit the park.
Because the event restricts access to the North Unit, the June 7 Bird and Nature Adventure will be a paddle tour leaving from the Cherokee Marsh–South Unit boat launch. The tournament week is also a good time to explore the trails at Cherokee Marsh Conservation Park’s South and Mendota Units. Find more information at cherokeemarsh.org.
