We all should know by now the multiple benefits of physical activities such as walking, biking, running and swimming.
The list of good outcomes seems almost too good to be true — better moods, increased cognitive function, release from stress, better sleep, improved heart health, lower blood pressure, cancer prevention, diabetes prevention, enhanced immunity. This almost sounds like a late-night television advertisement.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! Multiple studies are showing these same simple activities produce even better outcomes when we do them in a natural surrounding such as a woods, beach, marsh or park.
So, please ask yourself. How lucky are we Northsiders to live in a place with the multiple units of Cherokee Marsh, Warner Park and beach, the Mendota shoreline and Lake View Hill Park, which includes a stunning view to accompany our efforts?
I think we all know the answer to that one.
