ELECTED OFFICIALS

Julia Matthews - District 12 Alderperson

Thinking back on my first year as Alder, I appreciate all of the opportunities I have had to engage with neighborhoods, learn about the issues that matter most to people (and about processes that impact those issues), and hear from folks directly. I think the most tangible success of the year was getting the railroad crossing on Packers Avenue fixed and your voices are what truly made that possible. Your emails and calls to city staff are what really drove this change and helped me justify the urgency.

With the start of this new term, I am looking for more feedback on how to best serve and communicate with constituents. Sometime in late April or May I will put out a survey asking about modes of communication and frequency. I plan to continue office hours and hold some larger community engagement events as well. I am also excited to continue getting to know all of the neighborhoods in the district and staying connected in that way. There is no need to wait for a survey, if there is anything you need or any feedback you want to give, please email me at district12@cityof
madison.com any time.

Last, I want to mention that now is a great time to reach out to us alders about your budget priorities! The budget process is already in the earlier stages and now is a good time to hear what services/projects/programs you value and if there are any specific projects you want to advocate for. What I learned in my first budget season is that the most successful budget amendments came out of months of planning and working with staff and other alders. The earlier the engagement, the better!

Thank you!
