It’s been a busy few months since my last update, and I want to catch our community up on where things stand.

This spring, my fellow alders elected me Vice President of the Common Council, alongside new Council President Sabrina Madison. It’s a real honor, and one I intend to use to keep pushing for stronger resident engagement citywide, especially for neighbors who don’t always get heard.

On the ground in our area, planning has continued for the new Hartmeyer Roth Park. As a Board of Parks Commissioner, I’ve asked tough questions on honoring the historic Native American mound within the park.

Also on the horizon: work is beginning on the North Area Plan, a multi-year planning effort that will help shape land use, housing, and investment across our side of the city. This is a generational opportunity to get it right, and I’ll be sharing more on how to get involved as the process moves forward.

We also celebrated the ribbon-cutting for the expanded Warner Park Community Recreation Center, a project years in the making thanks to residents who refused to let it go unbuilt. It’s open now, with pools, gyms, and programming for every age — and it’s a great place to beat the summer heat.

Looking ahead, please check on neighbors during high heat and severe storms, and watch for back-to-school resource events at our neighborhood schools. Our community looks out for each other — and my office is always here for whatever you need. District18@cityofmadison.com
