Neighbors, as we move through late winter into early spring, I want to share updates on the budget work that’s shaping our community’s future and highlight opportunities for your voice to be heard.
The Common Council adopted Madison’s 2026 budget in November with the lowest tax rate increase in at least 40 years. For District 18, this budget includes critical investments that directly benefit our community.
The Warner Park Community Recreation Center expansion is nearing completion, with the new multipurpose gymnasium and gathering spaces expected to open soon. This $10 million project will provide much-needed programming space for our young people and families.
The budget also prioritizes affordable housing with $17.5 million citywide, keeping us on track to build homes that meet the needs of working families, teachers and public servants who call the Northside home. Infrastructure investments continue with sidewalk repairs, street improvements, and stormwater management projects across our district.
As spring approaches, the Streets Department will begin leaf collection in April. Check the City of Madison Streets Department website for the exact collection date in your area. Rake leaves to the curb but keep them out of the street to prevent storm drain blockages.
Looking ahead, the Planning Commission and Board of Park Commissioners will be addressing development proposals and park improvements. Your input at these meetings matters. Whether it’s ensuring new development includes playgrounds and green space or protecting environmental features that make the Northside special, resident voices drive better decisions.
