It seems like every week there is a new AI “breakthrough” or must-have gadget. As a tech entrepreneur and small business owner, I understand that innovation can improve our lives. At the same time, we must ensure progress does not come at the expense of Wisconsin consumers. I’ve been hard at work crafting legislation to ensure that technology makes our lives better — not worse.

My SAFE Kids Act (titled Stop Addictive Feeds Exploiting Kids) regulates social media companies by banning the most harmful aspects of their products. These companies profit mightily from harming our kids, using addictive algorithms and privacy-violating practices to keep them scrolling. My legislation takes the burden off of parents — and kids — and places responsibility where it belongs: on the companies pushing their predatory products on kids.

Another bill protects patients by prohibiting the use of AI to deny prior authorization claims. Insurance coverage determinations should be made by qualified physicians, not computers.

I also authored a bill to prevent weaponized robots and drones, called No Autonomous Weapons Deployed Against We, the Governed — “NAW DAWG.” The Trump Administration used AI to direct attacks against Iran. We see ICE’s brutality and lawlessness in American streets, and we cannot allow the government to use AI-powered weapons to assault our communities.

I will always prioritize lowering costs and enhancing freedom for all Wisconsinites. We cannot let Big Tech steamroll our communities; the government must regulate technology to protect Wisconsinites’ rights, privacy and freedom.

These are just a few of the many bills I’ve authored to regulate Big Tech. From lowering grocery prices to healthcare costs to making concert tickets affordable, I am working to make sure technology works for us, not the other way around.
