Margaret’s Fund:
A Northside Scholarship
Northside resident Jane Corcoran is the recipient of this year’s Margaret’s Fund scholarship. Congratulations!
Jane is a graduate of Gompers Elementary, Black Hawk Middle, and East High Schools. She has been accepted at UW-Madison and plans to study journalism starting in the fall 2026 semester. Her career goal is to pursue sports journalism, inspired by her experience at East as an editor and lead producer for the school’s monthly news and entertainment program, Tower TV.
In that position, she covered many different sports, producing her own high-quality content while also supporting her classmates in their efforts. She is interested in eventually producing sports documentaries that feature women’s sports, especially to provide positive on-screen representation of female athletes to young girls for inspiration.
Margaret’s Fund is designed to support outstanding Northside students who have not only excelled in school but also have given back to our community in various ways. Jane did so through serving as a volunteer coach with Millennium Soccer Club, an organization based at Warner Park that provides affordable access to quality soccer for elementary school children. She found that the children she coached were excited and even more motivated to succeed when they found out that, like them, she had gone to Gompers and now she was captain of East’s varsity soccer team.
We wish Jane all success as she pursues a college degree and beyond.
Margaret’s Fund: A Northside Scholarship is managed by the Madison Community Foundation. It has made 18 awards since 2009 to promising Northside residents pursuing their educational goals. In one year, the award goes to a graduating high school senior; in the alternate year, it goes to an adult returning to school. If anyone would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the fund, they can find the giving portal at madisongives.org/giving/give-now.
