Make your voice heard this November
This November, voters across Dane County will once again have the opportunity to make their voices heard at the ballot box. Voting is one of our most fundamental rights and responsibilities. However you choose to cast your ballot, I encourage you to make a plan now and take the time to be an informed voter.
Learn about the candidates and offices that will appear on your ballot. Seek out reliable sources of information, understand what is at stake, and make the choices that best reflect your values and priorities.
For many people, the easiest option is simply voting at your polling place on Election Day. It is also one of the wonderful ways we build community. There is something special about seeing your neighbors, greeting the poll workers who make our elections possible, and participating together in this basic act of democracy.
If you plan to vote absentee, though, it is especially important to plan ahead. Recent elections have seen an increase in absentee ballots arriving too late to be counted. Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell reported that several hundred ballots arrived just one day after the April election, far more than we have typically seen.
His advice for November is straightforward: if you choose to vote early, use a drop box, vote early in person, or mail your ballot at least two weeks before Election Day. In Wisconsin, absentee ballots must be received by 8 pm on Election Day. A postmark is not enough. If you are voting by mail, give your ballot plenty of time to arrive.
Democracy depends on participation. Whether you vote early, by mail, or alongside your neighbors on Election Day, make sure your voice is heard.
