We are celebrating 25 years of growing food at Troy Farm. Established in 2001, the farm is turning 25 this year. That’s a quarter-century of local food production for our neighbors here in Madison. And of course, the legacy of growing at Troy Gardens goes back even farther than the founding of Troy Farm.
We are tremendously grateful for the many people who have grown at Troy over the years, and to steward this amazing legacy. Here’s to the next 25 years!
As many are already aware, there has been road construction on Troy Drive this spring. This project will continue to impact how people get to Troy Farm and Gardens this season. For all community gardeners, CSA members, neighbors and visitors to Troy, here’s what you need to know about getting here during the construction.
The project is already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of July. First the city will be replacing the sewer main under Troy Drive, then repaving the road.
▪ During construction, the best place to park will be across the street from Troy on Hintze Road, Lerdahl Road, and Luster Avenue. Folks can walk across Troy Drive to the farm and gardens from there.
▪ Troy Drive is closed to through traffic, but the road will be accessible for local traffic to the gardens as far as the intersection at Marcy Road, where you can turn off to reach Hintze, Lerdahl and Luster.
▪ No parking is allowed on Troy Drive from Monday–Saturday, 7 am–7 pm. Parking is available on Sundays.
▪ With less parking available on Troy Drive, the small parking lot at the intersection of Troy and Lerdahl may fill up quickly. Please do not drive up onto the grass or through the gardens.
▪ If you take the bus, the Troy Drive bus routes are being detoured via School Road.
We don’t yet know all of the details of how the road work will progress, and plans may continue to change as the project continues. You may notice the sound, smell, and other effects of the construction while you’re in the gardens near the road.
Hopefully, the work will conclude on schedule at the end of July, and Troy will be construction-free for the remainder of the summer with a brand new Troy Drive.
