By City of Madison staff
City of Madison staff have started initial preparations for the North Area Plan and will host a public kickoff meeting in November. Details will be posted to the project webpage and listserv soon.
The plan is the sixth of 12 area plans created under the updated Planning Framework passed by the Common Council in 2022. Area plans cover topics in the City’s Comprehensive Plan such as future land use, transportation, parks and open space, neighborhoods and housing, and more.
Staff have begun collecting background information and data and meeting with community stakeholders, neighborhood organizations, and others about the needs of the North Area community.
The public kickoff meeting will feature a presentation about the plan and process, a summary of feedback received so far, discussions with city staff, and the opportunity to share additional feedback. In addition to attending the public kickoff meeting, people can share ideas using the Project Commenting Map on the Project webpage: cityofmadison.com/dpced/planning/plans-projects/area-plans/north.
Throughout the planning process, City staff will share updates on what they’re hearing from residents during engagement events and develop informational materials to help describe some of the more technical topics that will come up during the planning process. These materials, along with informational slides and recorded meetings, will be posted on the project webpage.
More details about future public engagement events will be announced later. In the meantime, anyone who is interested can subscribe to receive email updates on the webpage: cityofmadison.com/dpced/planning/plans-projects/area-plans/north.
