Community Outreach and Resource Education Officer
Did you know that the North District has a Community Outreach and Resource Education (CORE) officer with a focus on youth trust and legitimacy? There are six such officers throughout the department, one for each district. These officers are dedicated to youth outreach and engagement. This is achieved primarily through youth academies, officer-led programming in community centers, and development of and participation in community events.
Recently, Officer Lester Moore was selected as the North District CORE officer, and he began his new role Sept. 28. Let’s get to know Officer Moore.
Officer Moore is a 26-year veteran of MPD. He has worked as a beat officer and neighborhood officer. He has prioritized relationship building as the cornerstone of his style of policing.
Officer Moore was one of the early members of the Madison Police Department Unconscious Bias/Cultural Competency group. He assisted in developing training for officers on biases and strategies to overcome them. He developed training for officers on how to develop relationships within communities of color.
Since beginning his new role, Officer Moore has hit the ground running. He has attended multiple community events; he has been creating relationships with community members, and made contacts within the public-school network on the Northside.
Please say hello to Officer Moore when you see him out and about.
