Lions Club
The new Madison Northside Lions Club is a great fit for the community and anyone hoping to serve it. The club is forming this year from the efforts of local residents who see the opportunity.
The Waunakee Lions Club will serve as a chartering club, and Lions from throughout the area district are assisting in the effort. The new club welcomes those who would like to join and those who would like more information. Future meeting dates will be announced soon.
Lions International was formed in 1917 and is headquartered in Chicago. Membership is open to everyone. Lions International is the largest service club in the world, with 1.4 million members belonging to clubs on every continent.
The strength of the international organization and the Wisconsin Lions will help the new club with assets and advice for support. Lions is definitely a service club. Meetings and projects don’t get lost in hierarchy; they revolve around the simple motto of “We Serve.”
The many clubs and individual Lions can concentrate on local needs and projects. Health, education, community recreation and beautification are the most common Lions efforts. Members have the opportunity to join forces with other Lions on district, state and international efforts.
Steve Pogue, a Sun Prairie Lion, said at a recent Madison Northside Club meeting that he always enjoys hearing stories of the many ways they find to serve locally and beyond. Pogue enjoys reading at a local elementary school. Other Northside and district Lions at the February meeting talked about the amazing Wisconsin Lions Camp at Rosholt and the Eye Bank in Stoughton. Another Lion talked about being part of the international Campaign SightFirst projects in Kenya.
