I attend an exercise class twice a week and was recently approached by another attendee, who asked if I am the “Rita at Northside News.” She recognized me from the photo above. I was astonished that (1) someone is reading my column, and (2) I still resemble the photo above. She told me how much she enjoys the Northside News.

All of us who volunteer for the Northside News understand its value in the Northside community. While the world seems to be in turmoil, it’s comforting to know there are many good people working every day to make their lives, their families, and their communities better. The Northside News brings you stories about the good that is happening in our neighborhoods.

Take a close look at this issue. There is a lot about the “good” here.

Children’s Theater of Madison has adopted Gompers Elementary School. The East Madison Community Center is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The Kennedy Heights Community Center director introduces herself and describes some of their programs.

Okie Dokie Tattoos is a new business in Lakewood Plaza, and MGE announces a new solar energy program. We also get an update on the airport’s noise mitigation plans.

Find out how you can get free native seeds to plant in your yard. Sign up for the 2026 Troy Farm CSA program and learn about the Troy Farm Collaborative.

The Northside Action Team provides everything you need to know about the upcoming 2026 elections. Northsider Jeffrey Lewis offers a touching story about “The Good Neighbor.”

We hope you will continue to read and support the Northside News as it enters its fourth decade of publication.
