We’ve all seen those makeshift memorials pop up signifying some sort of tragedy. The candles, flowers, balloons and pictures placed with loving care as an act of remembrance for someone lost. How would you feel if one appeared on your lawn?
Northside resident Wally Meyer has published his debut novel, “The Unwanted Gift.”
It involves many complicated characters like Edmund Brearly, a retiree who supplements his income by repairing bicycles. He is an active, yet thrifty older gentleman who is well known as the guy that can “fix anything on a bike.” While working in his garage, he is assaulted by a group of thieves. The attack leaves him withdrawn and makes him a prisoner in his own house. Scared to resume the life he once had, he is reduced to being a recluse.
Jacqueline Braxton is a single mother of a teenage boy named Bo-Al. She is a local librarian and has raised her son to be self-sufficient, independent and strong. She cherishes the young man who is growing up faster than she wants. Jacqueline is saddled with the burden of being a single mother when her husband leaves her to return to their previous life in Chicago. Her life revolves around work and caring for her teenage son.
Their worlds collide on a tragic night….
The Unwanted Gift is available on Amazon, Kindle and at the Madison Public Library.
