Happy fall, Northside!
Governor Evers signed into law the 2026–2027 biennium budget this July. The budget included important investments in the Universities of Wisconsin, various building projects, and short-term childcare relief.
In August, our office introduced a package of bills called Keep Families Together. The Trump regime’s ICE tactics rip families apart and violate due process. Our bill package restores safety by ensuring all neighbors can live, work and worship without fear. By increasing transparency and ending state and local collaboration with ICE, we put accountability first so every Wisconsinite is welcome and safe.
One issue close to my heart is building equitable food systems and abolishing food insecurity. From championing my Healthy School Meals for All bill to uplifting organizations like FEED Kitchens, together we can make ending hunger a priority. What makes FEED Kitchens especially critical in this work is the infrastructure they have built and their exemplary commitment to equity for farmers, small businesses, and working-class families.
I encourage our Northside and broader Dane County neighbors to support the programs and people at FEED Kitchens with your time, talents or treasure. There is great power in food, and no better way to strengthen community power than to commit to ensuring no one in our community struggles to nourish themselves and their loved ones.
I am eager to continue fighting for progress in the Legislature and working to pass policies that make Wisconsin safer, freer and more just. In these times of growing authoritarianism, caring for ourselves, our loved ones, and even those we don’t yet know is one of the strongest ways we resist.
When we fight power, power always fights back. But they can’t take away a daring vision for our communities — where we all thrive — because together, we make better possible.
