All of us at the Northside Planning Council were very saddened to hear of Darlene Horner’s passing on May 2, 2017. As a founding member of NPC and a powerful force for good in the Vera Court neighborhood, Darlene was truly a leading light for this community. Her heart, her passion, her spirit – she poured herself into helping her neighbors, and she transformed many lives. The Northside of Madison owes her a great debt. We are honored to be a part of her story, and we hold her and her family in our thoughts. We’ll miss you, Big Mama.
In tribute to Darlene, we would like to share this 2001 article from the Northside News about her life and the profound impact she had on our community.
