Spring is a busy time at Rooted

By Laura Whitt
Rooted Wisconsin

Spring is a busy time at Rooted as we kick off the growing season. We can’t wait to welcome you all back to the land.

Saturday, May 10, is our first Troy Farm community event of the season, the annual Plant Sale. We’re growing a wide variety of organic vegetable, herb, flower, and fruit plant starts, as well as specialty Southeast Asian vegetables and herbs, and native prairie plants. Visit us at 502 Troy Drive from 10 am–4 pm.

We’re celebrating our school gardens throughout the month of May. The seventh annual Wisconsin School Garden Day is May 15.

We will hold our first annual farm-to-school fundraiser, Farm to School Aid, on Saturday, May 24, at Troy Farm. This will be a local music festival with proceeds supporting Rooted’s work with school gardens. This family-friendly event will feature local bands, food vendors and kid’s activities. We hope to see you there.

It’s also community garden registration season at Troy. If you’re interested in a plot to grow your own food, join Troy Community Garden’s waitlist by emailing troy53704@gmail.com.

Troy is not the only community garden on the Northside. To join the waitlist at the Vera Court Community Garden, contact Colleen at 608-688-6403; for the Black Hawk Community Garden, email gardenregistrar@gmail.com; and for the East Madison Community Garden call 608-249-0861 or email info@eastmadisoncc.org.
