Sweet Sundays Bakery at Northside Farmers Market

Northside Farmers Market

Thank you, community, for being part of the Northside Farmers Market this 2025 season. The market continues to grow thanks to the great producers and creators in our community as well as our loyal customers.

We have been using the Northside News as a place to introduce the community to new vendors this season. This issue we are featuring Sweet Sundays Bakery, located in the center of the market near the information table. They specialize in baking a Japanese milk bread called shokupan.

Sunday Rome is the mastermind. She explained that shokupan is more than just bread — it is comfort, nostalgia and versatility all in one. It is perfect for morning toast, hearty sandwiches, or to enjoy on its own. She said her passion lies in crafting soft, pillowy loaves with a delicate, slightly sweet flavor that melts in your mouth. Each loaf is made with care, using high-quality ingredients, traditional techniques, and a touch of creativity to elevate everyday bread into an extraordinary experience. She said her milk bread transforms ordinary meals into moments of joy.

Rome started baking when she was 11. Later, she served in the Navy and lived in Japan, where she discovered shokupan. She also met her boyfriend, Jared, there. He also fell in love with this soft, comforting bread. Inspired by his enthusiasm and her own love of baking, she attempted to make her first loaf and it was perfect. Encouraged by her success (and by Jared), she shared her creation. What started as a personal experiment quickly grew into a small business. The Northside Farmers Market gives her the opportunity to share her creations with the community.

Sweet Sundays Bakery also offers seasonal treats like cinnamon twists with cream cheese buttercream frosting, cardamom rolls with apple caramel topping, and pumpkin cheesecake drizzled with pecan apple syrup, alongside a rotating selection of other sweet and savory delights.

Rome promised that her baked goods will delight you with warmth, flavor and a little magic in every bite. You can experience the perfect balance of tradition and innovation, and let every bite transport you to a place of soft, sweet satisfaction.

The Northside Farmers Market will run until Oct. 26. Make sure to visit Sweet Sundays Bakery and enjoy her creations before the season is over.
