The River Food Pantry is a 2015 recipient of a grant awarded by the Monsanto Fund. The $10,000 award will be used to keep the pantry shelves stocked with healthy food options for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. The River Food Pantry distributes 37,000 pounds of food each week, and serves three community meals each week. Through The River’s partnerships with local food banks and wholesalers, $10,000 will purchase $100,000 worth of food (at retail prices). The grant helps ensure that the pantry is stocked with canned protein, canned vegetables, cooking oil, flour, rice, meat, dairy and fresh produce.

“The need for pantry services continues to grow as more and more people have trouble putting food on their tables,” said River Food Pantry founder and Executive Director Jenny Czerkas. “This grant from Monsanto will help make it much easier for The River to provide nourishing food for the 600 families that visit us during our five weekly pantry sessions.”
