UBU Studios
UBU Studios is a small maker collective with a mission to strengthen community ties and improve mental health for ourselves and for our neighbors. We harness our creativity, then mix it with a little neuroscience, to design experiences that can empower people in their everyday lives.
We are not just building community connections; we are working to build new neural pathways to increase resilience everywhere. We foster whole-person wellness and aim to impart coping skills that are important and necessary, especially in these trying times.
Our Mystery Maker Monday events are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the East Madison Community Center (EMCC). In May, we added the Bridge Lake Point Waunona Neighborhood Center, with maker experiences held there on the third Monday of each month.
At their core, these maker experiences are just neighbors getting together, making everyday items, and trying to bring some happiness into our own lives and the lives of our neighbors. We also partake in some homemade Mystery Snacks, chat up a storm, and even sing sometimes. So far this year, we have made paint-pour art on canvas, no-sew fleece blankets, block stamps, stamped tote bags, fabric yarn and woven fabric bowls.
We even created our first public art exhibit. It’s currently on display at EMCC, so please stop by and enjoy “Southern Exposure.”
In June, the Northside Planning Council selected UBU Studios for a $100 neighborhood grant to help us expand our programming. Their generous support has allowed us to reach dozens more people by adding another four experiences to our calendar at EMCC. We are very grateful, NPC!
If you would like to join us for an upcoming Mystery Maker Monday event, or if you are a maker who is interested in partnering with UBU Studios to further our mission, please reach out via email to ubustudios.emcc@gmail.com.
{Support for this program comes from the City of Madison Planning Department Neighborhood Grant Program.}
